“Golden Falls” 18” x 24” Acrylic on Stretched Canvas
This painting on stretched canvas (18” high by 24” wide) is one I worked on this winter (2021) and it’s a hybrid of my two great loves: realistic landscape and abstract landscape. For once, I made the shapes abstract and less representational, while setting aside my painting knife. My abstracted landscapes are usually hard-edged, but I wanted this one to be soft, bold and mysterious. I always imagine in my rather dramatic landscapes of this type, that there is a traveller viewing the scene, one who is on an arduous journey, looking for a place of rest and new beginning. This painting also is a departure in that I’ve used metallic gold acrylic paint in the misty, watery parts. When seen at an angle those parts flash with a bit of shine.
