The subject is a flight of blackbirds taking wing, set against a rusty landscape. I love digital collage and this one began as a photo of an amazing rusted-out wagon which stopped me in my tracks when I saw it on a sidewalk. It looked like a fanciful, rusted landscape to me, and I have another version which is a “Rust Bucket Sunrise.” This image is a version of the scene onto which I dropped a clip of some birds we cut out to decorate a wall in a childcare center in Holguin, Cuba. The birds they cut out seemed to me to be stand-ins for my artist friends there on the island.
